Music Theory
Taught HS music band and music theory 1 from 1975-2010 at Newark, NY, Syosset NY and Sayville NY. He was an award winning wind ensemble conductor in Newark and Syosset. Became chairperson of music in Sayville School District from 1989-2010 (retirement). Taught private lessons for brass instruments and music theory for over 35 years preparing students for NYSSMA solo festivals and college auditions. Also provided music theory tutoring for HS students college entrance exams for my district and surrounding districts on Long Island.
Was awarded music teacher of the the year in 2009 by NEWSDAY. Started and directed jazz ensembles in all 3 school districts. Was a member of state wide and local Music Associations(NYSSMA,NYSCAME,NMEA, SCMEA ). Served as President, Vice President, and Treasurer many times. Built, as Chairperson, awarding winning best music departments for music education in the USA recognized by the NAMM .
Was chairperson of award winning Music department…building district with 11 teachers to the same district with 19 teachers. The department, with my support and leadership, created elementary select choruses,band and orchestra. DIstrict wide concerts for elementary, middle school and high school jazz ensembles, string ensembles and vocal jazz groups. HS program consisted of 2 bands ,wind ensemble , 2 jazz ensembles, 2 string orchestras,select string ensemble, 2 choirs with select choir, jazz choir, and many small ensembles ( brass choir, brass quintet, woodwind quintet and saxophone choir, jazz flute choir etc)
Also created piano and guitars classes, radio station, electronic music classes and musical theater auditions and performances.
Coached varsity girls tennis throughout my teaching career and was awarded coach of the year a few times with also winning HS Long Island Women’s coach of the year by the USTA.
