Dr. Emilio Rutllant is a Chilean-American flutist whose vibrant career spans orchestral, solo, and educational work across the Americas and Europe. Born in Chile and residing in the United States since age 10, he currently serves as Principal Flute of the Symphony of the Americas and the Northern Lights Music Festival. He is also Associate Principal Flute and Piccoloist with the Florida Grand Opera and a flutist with the innovative Nu Deco Ensemble in Miami.

Emilio has held positions with the Minnesota Orchestra, Pittsburgh Opera, Miami City Ballet, Symphonia Boca Raton, and the South Florida Symphony. As a soloist, he has performed throughout the United States, Spain, Italy, Austria, and Chile, and has appeared at major events such as the National Flute Association Convention, the Florida Flute Association Convention, the New York Flute Club, and the Midwest Clinic in Chicago.

An enthusiastic educator, Emilio served as adjunct professor of flute and music theory at Indian River State College in Florida, where he founded the IRSC Flute Day to connect students and professionals through a community-centered gathering. He has given masterclasses at institutions across North and South America, including Frostburg State University, Stetson University, Florida International University, Florida Atlantic University, King’s Academy of West Palm Beach, the Northern Lights Music Festival, and numerous universities in Chile, including Universidad de Chile, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Escuela Moderna de Música y Danza, and virtually through Flautistas de Chile.

He has performed at festivals such as the Encuentro Internacional de Flauta del Sur del Mundo, SOUNDscape contemporary music festival, Pierre Monteux music festival, and regularly returns to his home country for concerts and masterclasses. Emilio’s collaborative work has placed him alongside artists such as Andrea Bocelli, Gloria Estefan, Kristen Chenoweth, Ben Folds, Cameron Carpenter, Emanuel Ax, Andre Watts, and James Galway, and under the baton of conductors including Osmo Vänskä, Cristian Măcelaru, Karina Canellakis, Kent Nagano, Jader Bignamini, and Nathalie Stutzmann.

Emilio holds both a Doctor of Musical Arts and a Master of Music in flute performance from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, where he studied with Trudy Kane. While at Frost, he was a Henry Mancini Institute Fellow, graduate teaching assistant, and instructor with the Donna E. Shalala MusicReach program, which provides music education to students in underserved communities. Emilio earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Stetson University, studying with Susan McQuinn. His additional mentors include Jeffrey Khaner (Philadelphia Orchestra), Jasmine Choi (International Soloist), Walter Auer (Vienna Philharmonic) , Adam Kuenzel (Minnesota Orchestra), Marco Zoni (Teatro Alla Scala), and Greg Milliren (Minnesota Orchestra).
